Created by Leonardo Da Vinci (1510 – 1512).

Printed on a matte stretched canvas, this famous painting is now a digital copy printed at a minimum 300 DPI. (Dot Per Inch). 

The 1.25" thick side edges can be colored to your preferred choice, in this case; dark gray, black *side print or *mirror wrap, which works perfectly fine for this artwork.

*Mirror wrap, is the process of reflecting the front perimeter of the artwork printed on to the canvas's side edges.  These color combinations and prints are adjusted to each specific artwork, achieving a perfect match.  The goal here is to preserve and keep the totality of the image on the front side of the canvas.

*Side print, is the printing of the image's perimeter extended onto the side of a stretch canvas, which seems to work just fine with this artwork (without hiding too much from the front surface's printing).

Colored side edges are also available with other colors than the ones suggested above, as an option (by request).

ABOUT THE ARTIST AND THE ARTWORK:

It is thought that Leonardo drew this self portrait at about the age of 60 years old.  The portrait is drawn in red chalk on paper. It depicts the head of an elderly man in three-quarter view, his face turned towards the viewer. The subject is distinguished by his long hair and long waving beard which flow over the shoulders and chest. The length of the hair and beard is uncommon in Renaissance portraits and suggests, as now, a person of sagacity. The face has a somewhat aquiline nose and is marked by deep lines on the brow and pouches below the eyes. It appears as if the man has lost his upper front teeth, causing deepening of the grooves from the nostrils. The eyes of the figure do not engage the viewer but gaze ahead, veiled by the long eyebrows. The drawing has been drawn in fine unique lines, shadowed by hatching and executed with the left hand, as was Leonardo's habit. The paper has brownish "fox marks" caused by the accumulation of iron salts due to moisture.
